SAMPLE MUNICIPAL PROCLAMATION
PHARMACY AWARENESS WEEK
MARCH 5-11, 2001

WHEREAS pharmacists are experts in helping patients take their medications properly to get the most benefit and to prevent drug-related problems;

WHEREAS the proper use of prescription and nonprescription medication contributes to better health for Canadians in our own community and across the country;

WHEREAS Canadian pharmacists make millions of prescription and nonprescriptions interventions a year, resulting in savings to Canadian taxpayers of hundreds of millions of dollars;

WHEREAS interventions by pharmacists with hospitalized patients has been judged by physicians and pharmacists to improve patient care, reduce risks associated with drug therapy and save the health care system money;

WHEREAS pharmacists are promoting the theme Pharmacists Care, No Matter Where for Pharmacy Awareness Week 2001 to encourage patients to take an active role in their own health care;

WHEREAS pharmacists practice in a variety of settings, including community pharmacies (drug stores), hospitals, nursing homes and research facilities in our community;

WHEREAS pharmacists live, work and play in our community and make many contributions;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, _________________ , Mayor of the City/Town of _________________________, do hereby proclaim March 5-11, 2001 to be Pharmacy Awareness Week in the City/Town of _________________________.
