Are you part of the growing number of Canadians who are going online to look for answers to your questions about your health? If so, your pharmacist reminds you to use health information found on the Internet with care.

Even if a web site is reputable and provides solid, accurate information, you may still need further information or explanation of how it relates to your personal situation - your general health, what disease or conditions you have and what medications you are taking. That's where your pharmacist can help.

The best advice: find the information online, but confirm it in person. Talk to your pharmacist or other health care professional before you make a decision that will affect your health.

This message is brought to you by the pharmacists of Canada and your pharmacist.

Canadians are becoming more involved in their own health care.

For many, that means they are thinking about trying a herbal or alternative health product either to help them feel better or to prevent sickness.

Your pharmacist reminds you to use herbal and alternative health products with care. These products are chemicals and can be potent. Just because they claim to be "natural" in origin, do not assume they can be used freely without regard to side effects or interactions with other medications.

Treat herbal and natural health products with the same respect you give to your prescription medication. Never take such a product without discussing it first with your pharmacist or doctor.

Certain products may be effective for some people, but you should always make sure you are considering the right product for the right reasons.

Gather all the information you can before proceeding with any new treatment. Talk to your pharmacist.
